Plastic-free fruits and vegetables in supermarkets are a topical matter today and we feel that is a good thing. Do we really need 4 apples on a cardboard bowl with a plastic wrap and additional plastic labeling? These products present beautifully in supermarkets as a ‘naked’ product. This is what Alco Designs in USA has been doing for many years with many of the leading US retailers.
The patent application process that started off by a filing by Parx Plastics NV of a PCT (Patented Cooperation Treaty) has been fully completed. By the receipt of the official certificates the national patent application processes for the protection of a Parx Plastics NV technology in USA and China, has been fully completed. The patents are granted for the USA and the China market.
In-vivo trials incorporating the Parx antimicrobial and antibiofilm technology show significant benefits of the technology in dental applications for example in contact with damaged gums, as it is delivering fast(er) healing after prosthetic surgery, and in contact with teeth, as it is preventing plaque build-up. This technology has the potential to change the world of dentistry and seriously reduce infection risks associated with these procedures.
Creating floor tiles through a rather new technology referred to as PS Micro foam technology delivers a very suitable endproduct that can be used for floor tiles or panels. And now with the Parx Plastics technology integrated during the manufacturing process the materials have an improved intrinsic resistance against bacteria and mildew with a performance of Log 5.2 (99,999%) against Staphylococcus aureus and Log 2 (99%) against E.coli.
US Babycare Inc. has integrated the patented Parx Plastics technology into one of their successful product lines for babies and toddlers: Play mats. These colourful and soft cushioning play mats are made from cross-linked polyethylene foam (XPE foam) and integrated with the patented Parx Plastics technology these products are now with the utmost hygienic properties.
UK based Bio Products Group recognized issues with freezer and refrigerator drainage systems in supermarkets and integrated the Parx technologies in the Bio Pipe® and Bio Pad products created a sustainable anti-clogging solution that can reduce call-outs by up to 100% over a period of time, saving supermarkets chains a lot of costs and disruption involved with blocked drains.
A recent test shows that the biocompatible technology developed by Parx Plastics has a significant impact on the growth of Legionella bacteria. Legionella tests are quite difficult to perform as the bacteria need specific conditions to proliferate. However, the laboratory tests performed on request of Parx Plastics show a significant antimicrobial performance on the plastic surface against this strain of bacteria.

SGS confirms that WPC samples including the patented Parx technology show an antibacterial performance of Log 7 (approx. 99,99999%) on Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739) and a Log 3.5 (approx. 99,94%) on Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538P). The tests show that even in a product blend, consisting of only 27% plastic and 73% wood, the use of the Parx technology reduces the bacteria count on the surface of the product significantly.
The Parx Plastics technology and solutions will be presented at this years 24th edition of the International Processing & Packaging exhibition in SNIEC Shanghai Pudong. Visit booth number: 3S08 in Hall 3, Juy 11-13, 2018.
