A recent test shows that the biocompatible technology developed by Parx Plastics has a significant impact on the growth of Legionella bacteria. Legionella tests are quite difficult to perform as the bacteria need specific conditions to proliferate. However, the laboratory tests performed on request of Parx Plastics show a significant antimicrobial performance on the plastic surface against this strain of bacteria.

SGS confirms that WPC samples including the patented Parx technology show an antibacterial performance of Log 7 (approx. 99,99999%) on Escherichia coli (ATCC 8739) and a Log 3.5 (approx. 99,94%) on Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 6538P). The tests show that even in a product blend, consisting of only 27% plastic and 73% wood, the use of the Parx technology reduces the bacteria count on the surface of the product significantly.

PARX SOLUTION FOR LLDPE & PP RANDOM

Parx Plastics announces the availability of two specific grades of materials: Saniconcentrate™ LLDPE and PP0016 Saniconcentrate™ Polypropylene, random copolymer. Both materials, after a plastic injection production process, have been tested by an accredited independent laboratory according to ISO norm 22196 to measure the antibacterial performance on the surface of the samples. Both materials give the highest possible result from the test reaching an antibacterial efficacy of over LOG>5.6 for E.Coli and Log>4.0 for Staph. aureus bacteria. 

Independent certifications in China for food contact materials

The SGS laboratory in Shanghai and the Guangdong Detection Center for Microbiology confirm the excellent antimicrobial performance by independent ISO22196 antimicrobial tests. The Guangdong Detection Center for Microbiology also confirmed the compliance of the technology in the samples suitable for food-contact applications.

The Italian textile producer Ramfil s.r.l. has teamed up with Parx Plastics to incorporated Parx’ antimicrobial Sanipolymers into the yarns of the textiles used for sunbeds, beach chairs and umbrellas. Incorporating this biocompatible technology a modification is made to the materials mechanical/physical characteristics, which make the materials inhibit the growth of bacteria and funguses without using any harmful substances. In fact the technology makes use of one of the human bodies most abundant trace elements to achieve this effect. A technology that is not migrating/that is not leaching out and is not making use of any harmful substances. It is biocompatible and perfectly safe in contact with skin and lasts through out the lifetime of the product.

Parx Plastics has finished it verification tests on different grades of acrylics (PMMA) and adds them to the portfolio of antimicrobial concentrates. These thermoplastics are used for the production of sheets that are lightweight and shatter-resistant which are ideal to be formed into shapes for hospital beds.

This new material brings the Parx technology into area’s where antimicrobial resistance is a topic of discussion.  Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) refers to the ability of micro-organisms to withstand antimicrobial treatments. The overuse or misuse of antibiotics has been linked to the emergence and spread of micro-organisms which are resistant to them, rendering treatment ineffective and posing a serious risk to public health.

Antimicrobial WFC for Emergency Medical Care Units

Parx Plastics teamed up with Aviplast WFC/Deltawood, a developer of semi-permanent emergency hospital care units made out of wood fiber composite (WFC). This WFC material consists of 75% wood fibers from recycled waste or rest wood in combination of 25% plastic (PP) resin. Parx Plastics successfully applied it’s patented antimicrobial technology to this material and these emergency hospital care units can now have an antibacterial property of up to 99% within 24 hours, measured according to ISO22196.
